About Us
Antony Proracki bought our farm in 1923. He and my grandmother Tekla (Woynarski) and their 3 children, Stanley, Bernice and Jacob (my father) moved here from Manitoba. Tobacco was grown in 1930 by Tony. Tobacco was in the beginning stages in Norfolk County in this time. During the time from 1923-1930 he learned the business of farming, working with his brother in law Nick Woynarski.
In the mid 1980's alternate crops to tobacco were an initiative of the Ontario government encouraging farmers to switch from tobacco. We started growing sweet potatoes in 1985 and stopped growing tobacco in 2001. Juli and I work the same farm that my grandparents worked, followed by my parents Jake and Olga.
Practices
We grow our sweet potatoes organically (no chemicals – pesticides, fungicides or soil fumigants) and we use organic fertilizer. We are supporting the Canadian Organic Standards set for farming without going through the process of certification. Our crop is grown without the use of herbicides and insecticides. No waxes or fungicides are used in the washing and packaging of our product in preparation for shipping and sales. Natural Canadian sweet potato goodness to you, our customers.
