About Us
The Welsh family immigrated to Canada back in 1855 from Scotland. Robert Welsh settled in the Scotland, Ontario area where he began the family farm.
Premium sweet corn has been the dominant crop grown in our family since the 1930's. It has been close to our hearts ever since. Back then, we drove the corn every week into the Hamilton Farmers Market. In 1954 our family started selling corn at the Ontario Food Terminal, the first year the Terminal opened. This is still how we sell our corn to this day with additional sales directly from the family farm.
In 1989 we also started producing asparagus which is also sold at the Ontario Food Terminal every spring. Generational family farms seem to be dwindling in present years but farming is part of our heritage, and growing premium quality vegetables is something we want to continue to do for many years to come.

Practices
At Welsh Bros. we are constantly striving to create the best produce we can for you. We only hand pick our produce. We never use machine harvesters. We think it is essential to have everything hand-picked and hand-graded to provide our retailers and customers a premium product.
We use hydro-cooling equipment to lock in the freshness and flavour of our produce. As soon as our produce is picked, it is quickly cooled so you can enjoy the best tasting, freshly picked feeling at home.
We have currently been experimenting with organic farming with our Welsh Family Organics produce. As our farm grows, we are looking at how farming impacts future generations. We feel that as farmers it is our responsibility to look after the land this includes using organic compost and cover crops that help eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers.
