About Us
2011: SOWING THE SEED
After several years working reactively in the healthcare devices industry, GoodLeaf Founder Gregg Curwin went searching for a way to proactively impact the health of Canadians. Gregg was inspired by the work already underway on indoor-hydroponic farming in Japan, and quickly set about bringing the idea to Canada to deliver fresh, nutritious produce to Canadians year-round.
2012 - 2014: GERMINATION
For several years, the GoodLeaf team conducted trials to determine optimum conditions for plant growth, varieties best suited to indoor growing, and requirements to make vertical farming commercially viable.
2015: ESTABLISHING ROOTS – TRURO PILOT FARM
In 2015, GoodLeaf constructed its first pilot farm near Truro, Nova Scotia to test commercial production and to continue research and development of new varieties and growing techniques.
2018: BREAKING GROUND
In 2018, development commenced on GoodLeaf's first large-scale, fully commercialized vertical farm in Guelph. The state of-the-art farm builds on the learnings from the Truro Pilot Farm while adding a level of automation not seen in vertical farming before.
2019: GROWING UP - GUELPH FARM LAUNCH
In summer 2019, GoodLeaf's first full-scale commercial farm in Guelph, Ontario begins supplying microgreens and baby greens to retail locations and restaurants throughout Ontario. The production volume of the Guelph Farm is estimated at over 10 times the Pilot Farm. Our roots in Nova Scotia remain, with our Truro farm converted to a dedicated R&D facility.
